The Beginning of Maxis.

Hello Sports Fans... This post is all about all the events that transpired to the existence of Maxis Sports Vintage. In particular, it's about Me (Grant) and Beck (my wife) and how we founded Maxis Sports Vintage (MSV).

I grew up in a sports family playing basketball since I can remember. I always had a cap on my head and 90% of the time it was a Chicago Bulls cap. Hey, it was the 90's we ALL loved Jordan right?

Those 90's Bulls introduced me to the Detroit Pistons. The bad boys! Man did that sound cool as a kid but we'll get back to that later. That is when sports fashion started off for me.

Growing up I always wore "out there" clothing. I was the different one in my friendship groups. I had big in your face band shirts, huge print sports clothing, bright blue Pistons gear and all different Detroit sports hats for every occasion. At least that's how my wife Beck remembers me. She went to the same primary school as I did, so you could say we've known each other for a long time.

Fast forward to 2008. Beck and I have been in a relationship for 1 year and we pick up our first puppy, a black labrador we named Maxi. The name Maxi was a nod to my favorite Piston at the time, Jason Maxiell.

We really had no idea the impact this little guy would have on us as people but I'll do my best to help you understand.

Maxi was special, yeah yeah I know we all say that about our pups but he really was. He found a way to bond with everyone he met. Our first home was known as "Maxi's Pad" to our friends. People wanted to visit us just to see Maxi.

For the next 13 years Maxi was our baby and best friend. Every day I couldn't wait to get home from work so I could play NBA 2k and sit with Maxi. That's all he ever wanted to do, just sit with us and be with us.

Over those 13 years we not only watched Maxi grow from a tiny little loving labrador in to a big thicc puppy dog, but he watched us grow from baby faced 20 year olds to married 30 year olds with a daughter and another child on the way.

He didn't just watch us but he guided us in to adulthood and beyond. Oh and he became a big brother and mentor to another pup named Abby!

In 2021, a few months before we had our son, Maxi had to leave us. He had given us, our family, our friends and our world everything he had. He passed a 13 year old man with a grey beard and a smile on his face. We will forever miss him.

It's near the end of 2022 and Beck shows me some instagram creators and their sports vintage collection. "Hey, that's like my jacket!" I said to her. We had just realized we had been collecting sports vintage without even knowing it and discovered a whole new world of everything I always wanted as a kid but couldn't buy for myself.

"We should give reselling vintage a go? That'd be a fun thing to do together right?" Beck said. So what did we do? We put together our first collection of clothing we thought the people would like, started learning the ins and outs, the market scene and how to build an ecommerce website. A few months later, at the end of 2022, Maxis Sports Vintage is born. In honor of Maxi and the life he gave us, we started this endeavor in his name.

So here we are... That's how we got here and that's why you're able to read this post. Through you, our customers, we are able to keep Maxis name and our passion for vintage alive and thriving. Thank you!!!
